Hey everyone, I would like to have memorial with mass and Native ceremony for uncle Floyd Fox at my house Dec 8 at 6pm it is also a potluck.. let us come together to remember him and celebrate who he was. Any suggestions? After not seeing him since 2009 a missing report was filed and after several months of a North American search, we learned that he died Dec 13 2010 at Mt. Sinai Hosp in Toronto and buried in Feb 2011 at Westminster cemetery in Toronto.

It was a beautiful memorial service. We had a mass because Fmy brother Floyd was Catholic and we had a smuding, a sacred fire and pipe ceremony because Floyd was Native and proud of his Native Ancestry. My daughter Dianna hosted the ceremony at her home. She also had her home blessed.
We began with the sacred fire followed by a smudging ceremony, which is a cleansing and offering of prayers.
Isaiah helped with the fire. We held the peace pipe ceremony outside the house around the fire. After the pipe ceremony the Father arrived for the mass.

We held mass inside the home in the living room. We formed a semi-arc around the altar. After the two readings, while looking at the Priest, I noticed someone standing there who was very tall man with a taupe colored v-neck sweater. I went to look at the face but the face was blury, I took a double look but when I looked to see again, he was gone. I think this may have been my brother who was there with us. He was standing up against the wall behind my cousin Denise and Janice.
After mass we had a meal. While the fire was going we left a spirit plate for my Uncle Floyd and we burnt it in the fire. Michelle played some soft Native drum music in the background.
We tried to have someone outside to watch the fire. While my brother Mike Moses was watching the fire, a neighbor passed by and asked what was going on. My brother replied, my Uncle died and we are having a native memorial ceremony. The neighbor replied how beautiful.
The family celebrated with a feast of potluck dinner.
In closing, our family is very, very grateful for all who were able to come out to remember and pray for our brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Floyd Fox. Thank you very much. Chi - Miigwetch

Paul said that he would do a lodge ceremony for Floyd in the Spring. It will be held in Pembroke, Ontario. We will have signers and drummers present. We will keep you posted.
